Replacing VMware? Compare Hyper-V, AHV and Proxmox

The software can be used without purchasing a traditional virtualization license, while paid subscriptions are available for organizations that want enterprise repositories and support. Its built-in web interface provides centralized management for virtual machines, containers, storage, clustering, backup integration, networking, and other infrastructure functions. Proxmox can therefore be particularly attractive to technical SMBs, labs, hosting environments, and organizations comfortable administering Linux-based infrastructure.
The flexibility comes with responsibility. Organizations migrating from mature VMware environments may need to spend more time designing networking, storage, high availability, monitoring, and operational procedures rather than expecting every VMware workflow to have an identical Proxmox equivalent. Proxmox also provides tools for importing VMware ESXi virtual machines, helping simplify the initial transition, although Windows guests may require additional driver and configuration work.
